ŁÓDŹ – more and more friendly for Ukrainians It is estimated that almost 20% of Łódź’s inhabitants are Ukrainians nowadays. There are 70-80 thousand Ukrainians residing legally, and their total number may reach 150,000! The Dziennik Łódzki reports, “The highest peak of Ukrainians’ arrival in Poland took place in 2017. Last year this dynamic growth slowed down a bit, however not in Łódź. In fact, the number of arrivals has doubled! The data is confirmed by the Łódź Voivodship Office. More and more Ukrainian IT specialists find their employer in Łódź since they are well educated, they communicate in English as expected and they share comparable values and culture. The knowledge of Polish language is not crucial, however Ukrainians used to start speaking Polish quite quickly after arrival. Due to the depopulation of the city, the municipality introduces a policy that is encouraging Ukrainians to come and stay in Łódź. The Magistrate employs Russian and Ukrainian speaking officeers to make communication easier. The website of the office and ticket service are available in Ukrainian. Łódź authorities are also working on the „Relocation package” which is expected to be presented this year.
